I dont like this “you wont get bulky” thing because the idea of ‘bulk’ is the same as ‘tone’ or ‘long and lean’. Its a subjective term that means different things to different people and thus should be eliminated from your fitness vocabulary. 

When you lift you will grow.

You will grow muscles, you will gain size, you will fill out int he shoulders, lats and glutes. You will start to hate wearing tshirts and jeans because none of them fit you properly. You will ache from this growth. You will need to concentrate more and more on mobility and stretching. You will love it, sometimes you will hate it - but you will mainly love it.

You will grow in your mind, and in your heart. You will grow to love the challenge of learning and evolving. You will seek out things you never thought you would and be able to do things you never thought you could. You will get gutsy. You will walk down the street with your chin held up and your shoulders square and people will notice how much you own the space you live in.

You will get comments about your muscles, mostly positive but sometimes some ass will tell you that you have man arms, or your legs are too thick. Just imagine deadlifting them - its what I do.

You will grow.

and it will be great.
